Would you like an update on the status of public
education in
Rhode Island?
Would you like to speak with the Education
Commissioner about the schools in your community?
You will have a chance to talk with Education
Commissioner Deborah A. Gist during the Commissioner’s 2010-2011
Listening and Learning Tour.
To hear what Rhode Islanders are thinking and to
share ideas about education, Commissioner Gist will visit every school
district in the state over the course of the 2010-2011 school year. Each
visit on the tour will conclude with a community forum during which the
commissioner will discuss the
strategic plan
to transform education in
Rhode Island and engage in
a conversation with the audience.
“The U.S. Department of Education has recognized that
our strategic plan is one of the best in the country and has
awarded
Rhode Island $75 million in Race to the Top
funds to implement our plan,” said Commissioner Gist. “It’s important
that everyone – students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and
community members – work together to make our schools
America’s best. I am looking forward
to meeting with people from across the state to discuss how we can
transform education in
Rhode Island.”
In addition to the community
forums, the Commissioner's Listening and Learning Tour will include
classroom visits and afterschool meetings with teachers. Commissioner
Gist’s tour will also include visits to each state-operated school and
charter public school in
Rhode Island.
