Charter Schools
Accountability
Charter schools are autonomous
public schools or school systems
that operate under five year
charters granted by the Board of
Regents.
The increased freedom available to
charter schools comes with increased
accountability for results. At the
end of their charter terms, schools
are subject to high-stakes reviews
that could result in non-renewal of
their charters. Throughout a
school’s charter term, RIDE’s Office
of Transformation collects evidence
for these reviews based on three
standards:
-
Is the school’s
educational program
an academic success?
-
Is the school
providing the
appropriate
conditions for
success?
-
Is the school a
viable organization?
This rigorous
evaluation process includes an
analysis of student outcome data, a
site visit process, and a review of
key organizational outcomes. Please
