RHODE ISLAND ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE ENDORSEMENT
FOR SUBJECT CONTENT AREA TEACHERS

This endorsement of a subject content area certificate (excluding English) is valid for service as a teacher of Limited English Proficient students, in a self-contained setting, receiving instruction in the subject content area. For special subjects teachers, this endorsement is valid in all grades (PD-12) and for secondary certified teachers, the endorsement is valid in grades 7 through 12.

The following coursework is required for this endorsement:

1. Curriculum and Methods for Content ESL Instruction
2. Theories of First and Second Language Acquisition
3. Socio-Cultural Foundations of ESL Education
