In developing I-Plan goals, educators reflect on their current practice to determine their
needs for gaining knowledge and skills. The professional standards serve as guidelines and
models to describe “best practices” in education that ultimately lead to improving student
learning. I-Planners link their goals to Professional Standards. Educators select from
two sets of standards and indicators listed on the electronic system:
1.
The Rhode Island Beginning Teaching
Standards (RIBTS) for teachers and specialty educators such as guidance counselors,
social workers, and school nurse teachers.
2.
Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium
(ISSLC) standards for school leaders and administrators.
