Educating Rhode Island's children takes major
investments of a variety of resources. A primary concern of every taxpayer in the state
is the financial commitment needed to operate our school systems.
Eleven years ago the
State Legislature and the Rhode Island Department of Education began to
establish a more detailed and informative system of reporting
educational expenditures for school districts. In$ite
uses each districts' funding sources to analyze their expenditures.
Some of these sources come in the forms of federal and state grants,
town or city general revenue funds, state aid, and/or other specialized funds. With
millions of dollars
being spent on education, it is crucial that decision-making data be
available to district, school, and state leaders regarding where and how
resource dollars are
being spent. In$ite provides
consistent ways to review expenditures for every school district, and, in the near future,
for every school.

Explanations
Note: Each district makes specific policy and educational program
decisions based on their available resources and the unique needs of
their student body. Because of these factors, no districts' costs should
be the same.
