Cumberland, Woonsocket Teachers Receive $25,000 Milken Awards
10/14/2003 - - An 8th-grade mathematics and science teacher at the Cumberland Middle School and a construction and building-technology teacher at the Woonsocket Career and Technical Center have each received $25,000 National Educator Awards from the Milken Family Foundation.

Rhode Island to Receive $2.7-Million Federal Grant for Reading Instruction
10/8/2003 - PROVIDENCE - Senator Jack Reed has announced that the R.I. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (RIDE) has received approval for a $2.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to finance a reading-instruction program for pupils in the early grades.

Education Commissioner Releases List of Schools That Must Offer Choice, Tutoring
8/14/2003 - - Education Commissioner Peter McWalters presented the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education last night (Thursday, August 14) with the list of 27 public schools that must offer school choice at the opening of the coming school year.
