Exhibitions Pilot Schools

Barrington High School has been running a senior project system for seven years, which has recently become a graduation requirement for all seniors. The faculty and project directors have a great deal of experience in challenges and opportunities created by Senior Projects throughout the various stages of implementation. For more information, please call Ms. Judianne Point at 401-247-3150.

Coventry and Lincoln High School both offer Capstone classes, which are an integral part of their Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) programs. Capstone Projects are in-depth projects that require students to identify a problem of interest and provide a solution reached through independent research. The Capstone Project, like all other exhibitions, includes an in-depth research paper and an oral presentation before a panel. Coventry and Lincoln have well-developed school structures, curriculum and instruction to support students as they undertake Capstone Projects. For more information on Lincoln's Capstone work, please call Ms. Kathleen Moylan at 401-333-1850. For more information on Coventry's Capstone work, please call Ms. Deb Jervis at 401-822-9492.

Portfolios Pilot Sites

Chariho High School has been thoughtfully building an infrastructure and foundation for its digital portfolio and graduation by proficiency work. Last year CHS piloted its portfolio system, which is based on their nine Expectations for Student Learning (the Chariho Nine). This year, Chariho developed an advisory structure and implemented common planning time to support their portfolio system and to reinforce student and teacher understanding of the Chariho Nine. The advisory and common planning time are offered every other day as part of a newly adopted block schedule. For more information call Dr. Phil Auger at 401-364-7778.

Cranston High School East has been independently developing a digital portfolio system for the past two years. Currently, all freshman, sophomores, and juniors actively upload, revise and reflect upon on their work, which is housed on a school-based server. Cranston East has been working to quickly bring their system to scale and full use across the curriculum. For more information, call Mr. Don Fredrick at 401-270-8126.

Ponaganset High School has been developing a digital portfolio system with the help of a consultant for more than four years. They have been incrementally increasing the number of students using the system. This year all freshman and sophomores are actively uploading schoolwork into their portfolio. Student work is assessed periodically by the classroom teacher and by a team of educators at the end of each school year. For more information, call Mr. David Moscarelli at 401-647-3377.

Scituate High School has been developing portfolios in conjunction with their art, music, and business curriculum for ten years. In addition, they have eight years of experience developing both interdisciplinary and content-specific portfolios (paper and electronic). For more information, call Mr. David Neves at 401-647-4126.

Woonsocket Career & Tech/High School is in its fourth year of using portfolios and second year in digital portfolios. WACTC has taken portfolios to scale, requiring their use by every student enrolled. WACTC will add a valuable Career & Tech perspective. For more information, please call Dr. Lynne Bedard at 401-767-4662.

Common Tasks Pilot Sites

Lincoln High School has been one of Rhode Island's leaders in the development and implementation of Rhode Island Skills Commission Common Tasks. Lincoln has been administering Common Tasks for nine years. Currently, all students in grades 9-11 are given a combination of on-demand and extended tasks. For more information, call Ms. Kathleen Moylan at 401-333-1850.

West Warwick High School has been administering RI Skills Commission Common Tasks for two years and has quickly ramped up student participation. During the current school year, all freshman and sophomores are given on-demand and extended tasks. Nearly 50% of the faculty is actively involved in Common Tasks. For more information, please call Ms. Karen Wilson at 401-821-6596

Coventry High School has been active with Rhode Island Skills Commission Common Tasks for five years, and currently expects that all students to have exposure to tasks in ELA and Math. Coventry has developed a number of outside partnerships and innovative school structures to support Common Tasks. For more information, call Ms. Deb Jervis at 401-822-9499.
