Description
All judges must be trained before participating in the scoring process. This training should include:
- A full explanation of all the components of the exhibition system that they will be scoring
- Instruction in the use of rubrics and scoring templates
- Opportunities to review samples and models of student work
- Guidance on how to provide appropriate, useful, and constructive feedback to students
If possible, it is advisable to use a video recording of an actual student presentation during judge training. This will allow judges to know what to expect and to see examples of situations for which they should prepare.
Things to Consider
Schools must allot adequate time for training evaluators. Schools will need to decide if it is feasible to train judges on the day of the evaluation or if they should offer the training at some earlier date.
