Recent Planning Activities

Planning engages the entire educational community

Evidence that a broadly representative technology committee was created to develop the plan. An inventory is maintained of technology related equipment and software. Technology Policy Development

Specific policies and plans for instructional uses of technology, utilizing and maintaining LANS and WANS, managing and troubleshooting equipment settings, securing and ensuring the usefulness of the technology resources by administrators, teachers and students are described. In addition, there is a strategy that demonstrates cooperative involvement of educators in the development of policies that focus on maximizing the usefulness

Technology Integration into the Classroom

The plan provides examples of desirable practices for the utilization of technology in the classroom. Scenarios of effective technology use in the classroom, a description of resources and programs that teachers are involved in, and strategies for increasing the use of technology in instruction are provided. A plan of action to model methods and strategies for teaching with technology, for responding to and encouraging teacher interest in technology tools, and for harnessing teacher expertise in selecting appropriate classroom materials is in place. 

Professional Development Strategies

The plan describes professional development activities which teachers are engaged in and exhibits how funding of planned activities is provided. Policies, plans and budget demonstrate that a range of professional development activities are supported, that teachers are involved in the design and/or delivery of training activities, and that training focuses predominantly on the improvement of instructional practice and maximizing student learning. The plan describes policies and funding commitments that support a range of approaches to professional development, provides evaluation of training efforts to ensure that they reflect knowledge about adult learning styles, and facilitates peer interaction including participation in external collaborative programs.

Equipment Acquisition and Budgeting

A budget for technology acquisition, training, and maintenance is provided. The technology budget is tied closely to specific actions related to planned professional development activities, thoughtful equipment and software acquisition and distribution, and maintenance and replacement schedules and describes the process or specifications for purchasing technology systems. Also, the technology budget reflects an analysis of current needs and shortcomings of the existing systems and programs in place and projects a long term strategy to meet the emerging expectations of the educational and broader community for the role of technology in the instructional and administrative functions of the schools.

Promoting Equity and Access

The plan advocates for and identifies solutions that address social needs and cultural identities for all students. The plan describes efforts made to acquire appropriate technology tools and other resources for learners with diverse backgrounds, abilities and characteristics and identifies professional development strategies and other assistance provided to teachers to address all types of differences between students. In addition, the plan illustrates, recommends, or assesses specific technology resources for various learners and provides regular opportunities to analyze the effectiveness of the tools in use.

Evaluating Instructional uses and the impact on student achievement.

An evaluation process reviews some elements of the technology implementation within the system. The plan describes specific evaluation activities that measure the effectiveness of the technology strategies in place and describes how this information is disseminated.
