Formative Assessment PD Online Modules

RIDE is building a professional development resource for Rhode Island educators on the formative assessment process.

Viewing the first two modules this year ensured that all faculty received a consistent message. The Community of Practice meetings provided us time to dive deeper into the big ideas, learning progressions, and success criteria. The unit plan template is excellent. - Kathy Almanzor, Jamestown

We are looking forward to expanding our Community of Practice… to the entire Barrington Professional Learning Community. Teachers involved in the pilot reported that the modules have supported important changes in instruction in their classrooms, framed in a deeper understanding of the learning progressions. In addition, using data from the formative assessments connected nicely to the RIDE data professional development and conversations around low-stakes data and instructional decision making.

- Paula Dillon, Barrington
Formative Assessment is a process used by teachers and students during instruction that provides feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve students' achievement of intended instructional outcomes. - Council of Chief State School Officers
