Regarding Release of Educational
Records
Under federal law (the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act),
school districts must obtain parents
written consent before disclosing
personally identifiable information
from a child’s education records.
School districts, however, may
release some information, known as
“directory information,” without
parent prior written consent, unless
the parent has asked the district
not to do so. To learn more about
