Guide the Selection / Implementation
of Curriculum, Instruction and
Assessment
Rhode Island teachers and leaders
have worked with colleagues across
New England to develop common
curricula and related state
assessments. All teachers must know
what to teach and how to best
instruct and assess every student.
State, district, and school leaders
share the responsibility of guiding
this process so that every Rhode
Island student's high school diploma
clearly represents their proven
abilities to read, write, problem
solve, and think critically. To do
this, RIDE will work with districts
to:
- Develop and implement, in
collaboration with school
leadership teams and union
leadership, an articulated
PreK-12 curriculum for all
students that meets or exceeds
state-mandated content and
performance standards.
- Require, finance, and
support differentiated
instructional strategies,
materials, and assessments to
ensure that all students have
opportunities to meet state and
district performance standards.
- Provide information,
programs, and resources that
teachers can use to redirect and
focus their instruction to
address the full range of
students.
- Implement in each school
multiple measures for evaluation
and assessment of learning that
are frequent, rigorous, and
aligned with the district
curriculum.
- Approve performance-based
exit criteria for high-school
graduation.
- Ensure that secondary
schools function in a manner
that provides every student with
multiple opportunities to
achieve and demonstrate mandated
levels of proficiency prior to
graduation.
