Schools
and families have long been aware of the particular needs of
students with attentional disorders. Over the years, the
Department has received many calls from individuals needing more
clarity and consistency of information regarding students with
attention disorders. This guide is intended to provide
information for school personnel and parents about appropriate
interventions, recommended referral procedures, recommended
diagnostic procedures, legal issues as well as recommended
resources. This guide is closely linked to state and federal
regulations governing special education and Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act. This guide goes beyond these, however, and
includes best practices.
