Description
All students completing an exhibition will need to develop and strengthen their self-management skills. Teachers, mentors, advisors, and other supportive adults should provide appropriate support to students but be cautious about providing too much support. Throughout the project, but especially upon completion, students must have time to reflect on the process of preparing for an exhibition and, most importantly, a purposeful evaluation of the learning that took place. A required reflective narrative provides judges with the background and context needed to understand the depth and scope of the project.
Things to Consider
Some schools that have prior experience with exhibitions have required students to keep a journal or submit periodic reflections during the process. The required reflective narrative must include a summary of the research and components of the project, a reflection on the problem-solving process undertaken, a reflection on new learning, a description of the role the mentor played, and reference to the appropriate applied learning and content standards.

Reflective Narrative Components
Exhibitions that are serving as a School-Wide Diploma Assessment must contain a reflective narrative. This reflection allows students to summarize their project, discuss problems, and reflect on the overall process. This tool provides guidance about the components and processes for helping students complete this required element.
Process Journal Guidelines
This document was developed by the Rhode Island Skills Commission. It is one example of a reflective process (journaling) that students doing exhibitions might use as they complete their work. Schools that are not members of the Rhode Island Skills Commission should not use these guidelines in their entirety but may find it useful modify them to meet their individual needs.
Reflection Paper Guidelines
This is an example of reflection paper guidelines used at Bow High School. These guidelines should not be adopted in their entirety but can be used as a sample and modified to meet the needs of your system and school.
