step 16 Revision of the System

After complete review and analysis of the data, the results of the analysis will help inform decisions about the components of the system that require improvement. Changes in state requirements should be considered when the system is being reviewed to ensure that students will meet state requirements for graduation. Decisions about revisions to the system should involve representatives of the school community and any changes need to be clearly communicated to parents and students before being implemented.

It is important to review all aspects of the system including:

  • Instruction and assessments
  • Professional development opportunities
  • School structures and supports
  • Training of review panels
  • Monitoring and communication plans

Constant evaluation and revision of the system is necessary to ensure that the system is fair, reliable, and valid and that all students have multiple opportunities to complete the requirements of a graduation portfolio.

It may be helpful to have educators from other districts or systems review your graduation portfolio system. One of the opportunities for this to happen will be during the final review of graduation portfolios when outside members are part of the review panels.
