Description
It is important to create an exhibition design committee to facilitate the development of an exhibition system. The committee should take responsibility for overseeing the development of the exhibition assessment including the exhibition design, implementation, and evaluation. The committee must know all of the elements of the Rhode Island Diploma System and the required elements for exhibitions.
A design committee might consist only of teaching staff but it is important to consider including representatives from special education, non-teaching staff, building and district administrators, guidance counselors, students, union representatives, parents, business/community members, and the district/school technology coordinator.
Things to Consider
The design committee should identify any existing school policies and practices that would support the development and implementation of an exhibition system, and create an action plan for implementation. The committee should meet regularly to research and consider various models, receive input from all stakeholders, and communicate progress with school and district administrators, the school committee, and other important constituents.
The work of the design committee should be completed over an extended period of time and should include the following steps:
- Review and research data
- Become familiar with the Rhode Island Diploma System requirements and the criteria for an exhibition
- Seek and consider input from all constituencies
- Choose and/or design components of the exhibition system
- Establish a formal system of communication with the school community
- Act as a liaison to faculty members, administrators, and the school committee
- Review the district's curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices to support students in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed for a successful exhibition
- Help plan professional development
- Design an action plan and pilot program if needed
