step 6 Plan and Develop Support Structures
Action with checkbox imageSupporting Students during the Exhibition Process

Description

For those students with special needs and circumstances, it is important to provide all of the additional supports they require for success. All regular and special education teachers, guidance counselors, advisors, parents, and other adults should work together and communicate on a regular basis throughout the duration of a student's preparation for the exhibition process.

Support structures for exhibitions that benefit all students include, but are not limited to:

  • Personnel (including exhibition coordinator/advisors, regular and special education teachers, guidance counselors)
  • An effective communication system for teachers, parents, students, and community partners
  • A school schedule that supports implementation of the exhibition system
  • An advisor/advisee program

Things to Consider

Some schools offer a specific class for exhibitions, which can be either an elective or a requirement. In other schools, the exhibition work is embedded into an already existing course.
