step 8 Develop a Review Process

Criteria and protocols for the review process must be established early in the development of an exhibition system. While the final review process is very important, a clear, published timeline for submission of various elements of the exhibition is also essential as is the identification of staff members responsible for the monitoring and review of student progress. Communication between coordinators, teachers/advisors, mentors, students, and parents will be critical at each step in the ongoing review process.

The final review process for exhibitions must include eligibility criteria for those individuals who wish to serve as panel judges. The development of these criteria should occur early in the process so that coordinator(s) will have plenty of lead time to recruit the large number of individuals who will be needed to staff the panels.

Although much of the work of student exhibitions is done independently, most students will still need help managing their time, maintaining motivation, and meeting deadlines throughout the course of their project. Monitoring and reviewing student progress along the way will avoid confusion, misunderstanding, and disappointment as final presentations are scheduled.

Those responsible for this coordinating the review process will need to establish a schedule for reviewing exhibitions early to avoid difficulties during scoring and evaluation sessions.
