Description

Students will be collecting evidence of their proficiency throughout their four years of high school and provisions must be made to store student work in a safe, organized, and secure manner. Many schools will choose to store work in electronic form, but even if you choose to store hard copy the storage system must ensure that student work will be secure and easily accessible.

Things to Consider

Whatever portfolio storage system a school chooses, it is important that safeguards be in place to ensure the security of the portfolio entries. Once a portfolio entry is complete and has been evaluated, that entry should not be altered unless a student is given permission to do so. The graduation portfolio storage system needs to be secure for evaluation purposes as well. Whatever the method of storage, duplicates or backup copies need to be made of all work. The school schedule should be reviewed to ensure that there is time for students to enter work in their portfolios and for teachers to evaluate that work.

Tools

RINET Electronic Portfolio System

Rhode Island Network of Educational Technology (RINET) is in the process of developing an electronic platform for portfolios that will interactively enable storage, monitoring, and evaluating of students' portfolio entries, as well as their graduation portfolios. This platform will be available to all schools in the spring of 2006. There will be a minimal charge for use.
