Laboratory Classrooms for Aspiring Leaders
A program that provides opportunity
for aspiring principals to be
involved in a training process
designed to focus on leading the
school community in the improvement
of instructional practices.
The East
Bay Educational Collaborative's (EBEC) Laboratory Classrooms
project develops and supports teacher-leaders by assigning them
to be lab classroom teachers with increased responsibilities.
In addition, the Laboratory Classrooms open their doors to the
aspiring principals participating in EBEC's Masters Degree in
Educational Leadership, a program offered in partnership with
The School for Continuing Education at Rhode
Island College in order to provide their classes in a geographical
location more accessible to East Bay educators.
The Laboratory Classrooms provide job-embedded professional
development for educators as a lab team of a teacher and literacy
coach lead them in a pre-brief, observation and debrief of a
classroom lesson developed using three best practices: the workshop
format; gradual release of responsibility model; and, thinking
strategies for readers, writers and thinkers.
