• Rhode Island's Personal Literacy Plan Guidelines
  
  The Personal Literacy Plan (PLP), a plan of action used to accelerate a student’s learning in order to move toward grade level reading proficiency, is designed to accomplish the goal of attaining reading achievement for all students.
  
  
• PreK-12 Literacy Policy
  
  The 2005 PreK–12 Rhode Island Literacy Policy serves to expand and revise the original K–3 Rhode Island Reading Policy first published in February 2000. The original document has been broadened beyond the primary years to include a focus on literacy acquisition through grade 12. The belief that literacy learning is an on-going process has been confirmed by research and is reflected in this updated policy.
  
  
• Scaffolded Literacy
  
  In order to be successful after graduation, all Rhode Island students need a strong literacy foundation. Students learn these skills at different rates. Educators recognize that not all students enter middle or high school reading at that grade level. The Scaffolded Framework for Secondary Literacy provides an organizational structure for meeting the reading and writing needs of all students in each subject area. This instruction helps students understand increasingly complex concepts, text structure, and vocabulary.

• 2007 Rhode Island Educator Extern Manual
  
  This document provides information for educators and their business partners who participate in educator externships. Through externships, educators have an avenue to learn about industry environments first-hand. With the knowledge gained from this experience, they can improve instruction and student learning by making connections between the classroom and the workplace. Students then become aware of various career opportunities and the knowledge and skills needed to pursue their goals through post-secondary study and/or by entering the labor market. Through the development of these career decision-making skills, students are better able to transition successfully from the school environment into meaningful career paths.

  The purpose of Reading First is to ensure that all children learn to read well by the end of third grade. Quite simply, Reading First focuses on what works: proven methods of early reading instruction in classrooms.

  OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a free resource that is available through the Internet and is limitless in its applications. Educators may use OCW sites for their personal professional growth, as well as to develop materials for their students. Students and self-learners may draw upon the materials as a means for self-study or to supplement their understanding of myriad topics.
