Instructional Technology Capacity Survey

Technology plays an important role in the Strategic Plan - Transforming Education in Rhode Island, the Race To The Top (RTTT) award, and the Partnership for Assessing Readiness in College and Career (PARCC).  The data from these surveys will assist decisions regarding technology infrastructure, personnel capacity, and professional development at both the state and local level.  Districts will be able to use the data to plan and budget appropriately for technology use and integration in support of these and other initiatives.  Trends and gaps will become apparent through the information.  The data will allow for objective conversations around systems that are in place, as well as systems that may need to be revisited to reach a desired outcome.

2011 Technology Capacity Survey

This year’s Technology Capacity survey opens on November 21, 2011 and will close December 16, 2011.

The Technology Capacity surveys were established in 2009 in cooperation with RIDE, RISTE's executive board members and representatives from RINET.  The comprehensive assessment of the overall technology environment within RI schools has assisted technology decision makers at both the local and state level.  The Rhode Island Department of Education relies on this survey data to evaluate the extent to which the state and its schools are effectively implementing technology plans and programs.  Data from the surveys will help to verify compliance with federal and state technology requirements.  In addition, RIDE recently submitted a Capital Improvement request of $20 million to fund technology infrastructure within Rhode Island's public schools in support of the bold educational reform initiatives outlined in the Department's Strategic Plan.  The approval of this funding is currently pending.  Responses to this surveys will help RIDE appropriately allocate the $20 million LEA Technology Infrastructure capital request across FY 2013 - FY 2017 if approved.

The essential questions addressed by this survey are:

  • Do we have the infrastructure necessary to utilize technology effectively in teaching and learning as well as the business of schools?
  • Do we have the personnel capacity to support the integration of technology into all curricular areas as well as the business of schools?
  • Do we provide the necessary professional development and curriculum development to allow technology to be used effectively by students in their thinking and learning as well as personnel in the business of schools?

There is a DISTRICT Survey and a companion survey for EACH SCHOOL in the district with DIFFERENT questions. (Note: If your district is composed of a single school, you will still complete both the district and the school surveys because the questions are different.) Please be sure to consult with other staff in your district and schools to provide the most informed answers possible and to ease your burden.

PDF versions of both surveys are available on the RIDE web site for your convenience.  Printing the survey and keeping a file of your responses is highly recommend. The District survey and the companion surveys for EACH School must be completed and submitted online using the links above.  Paper versions or emailed PDF files of the survey will NOT be accepted.
