Mathematics
Mathematics education in Rhode Island is currently centered on the Mathematics Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) for Elementary and Middle Schools and the Grade Span Expectations (GSEs) for High Schools. These expectations and the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) were developed with the New Hampshire and Vermont State Departments of Education in response to the federally mandated No Child Left Behind Act, 2001. They do not represent the full curriculum in mathematics, but rather serve as a framework upon which classroom instruction and assessment should be planned.
