Mathematics Science Partnership (MSP)
We invite school
districts to apply for the second round of funding
for the state’s Mathematics Science Partnerships (MSP) under
Title IIB, Part B of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). The RFP entitled
PRIMES (Partnerships and Research Investigations with
Mathematicians, Engineers, and Scientists), is a competitive
RFP for districts identified as high-need school districts and
Institutions of higher education. PRIMES is a three-year
initiative which focuses on improving performance in mathematics and science by
all students in grades K-8 or in grades 6-12. Districts
would work with at least one (1) middle school and the K-5
feeder elementary schools or at least one (1) middle school and one
(1) high school with the focus
on building learning communities to support and enhance
mathematics and science education at the participating schools.
In accordance with
the guidelines of the United States Department of Education, the
partnerships must be between school districts and higher education
faculty from the arts and sciences departments. Each school district
may also collaborate with additional organizations or partners as
they work to build a support system for improving mathematics and
science education at their schools. Participating school districts will be identified as the fiscal agents for the grant with district
proposals identifying funds for the higher education partners.
Applicants must submit full
proposals to the Rhode Island
Department of Education by
Thursday February 15, 2007.
A review panel will evaluate grant
applications and make
recommendations to RIDE.
Districts will be notified of awards
within two weeks of the application
deadline.
As always, thank you
for your continued support to help all students learn to high
standards.
