Graduation Rates
2008 Graduation Rates
Beginning with the Class of 2008, the Department uses the a new graduation-rate formula or the cohort formula to determine whether schools have met their annual performance targets.
Reporting graduation rates by cohort is required by the federal NCLB and by a National Governors Association compact that Rhode Island has signed. Prior to 2008, graduation rates could only be estimated from historical dropout data and current year graduates. Starting with 2008, the Department is able to track an individual cohort, or group of students, from the initial entrance into 9th grade through graduation with student-level data from the State’s eRIDE data collection system.
