Assessment Schedules

Below is the 2019-20 schedule of testing windows for each assessment in the Rhode Island State Assessment Program.

Use the navigation menu to find general information about each assessment in the statewide assessment system, or about particular components of assessment administration (e.g., manuals, trainings, results) for all statewide assessments.

ACCESS for ELLs and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs

ACCESS for ELLs and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs:


2019-20 Test Windows*:

  • ACCESS for ELLs (grades K-12): January 6 - February 14, 2020
  • Alternate ACCESS for ELLs (grades 1-12):  January 6 - February 14, 2020

*Make-up Dates: All make-up tests must be completed within the test windows listed above.

Test Windows*:

  • English Language Arts (grades 3-8, 11):  April 6 - May 22, 2020
  • Mathematics (grades 3-8, 11):  April 6 - May 22, 2020
  • Science (grades 5, 8, 11): April 6 - May 22, 2020

*Make-up Dates: All make-up tests must be administered within the test windows listed above.

Test Windows:

  • English Language Arts*:
    • Paper-based tests**: March 30 - April 15, 2020
    • Computer-based tests: March 30 - May 1, 2020
  • Mathematics*:
    • Paper-based tests**: April 27 - May 13, 2020
    • Computer-based tests: April 27 - May 22, 2020

*NOTE: Make-up tests must be administered within the test window dates listed above for that content area; there are no extra dates for make-ups.

**The paper-based testing window is for the following students and is not intended as a whole-school option.

  • students with disabilities with an accommodation listed in their IEP or 504 Plan that requires a paper test administration. 
  • EL students who require a paper test administration.

PSAT 10 and SAT School Day

 PSAT 10 and SAT School Day


Test Windows:

SAT School Day (grade 11 students only): LEAs have a choice as to when to administer the SAT in order to accommodate April vacation schedules. SAT will be a paper administration.

  • Option 1: 
    • School Day: March 25, 2020
    • Make-up Day: April 14 or April 28, 2020
  • Option 2:
    • School Day: April 14, 2020
    • Make-up Day: April 28, 2020

PSAT10* (grade 10 students only)

  • Primary Test Days: April 14 - 30, 2020
  • Make-up Day: April 30, 2020

* The April, 2020 PSAT 10 will be administered via computer. While additional details will be available through Assessment Office notices and at various RIDE and College Board training workshops, the following is a high-level overview of the computer-based PSAT10 administration information.

  • LEAs may choose to administer the PSAT10 on one day or over several days within that testing window.
  • Paper-based editions of the PSAT10 will be available in the following circumstances:
    • as accommodations for students
    • for out-of-state schools administering the PSAT10 to Rhode Island students
    • for home schooled students taking the PSAT10
  • Make-up day for PSAT10 will be computer-based and paper-based as necessary.

At this time, no NAEP assessments are scheduled to be administered in Rhode Island during the 2019-20 school year.
