Beginning Educators of Color Mentoring Program

Overview

The Rhode Island Department of Education, in collaboration with AnLar, will pilot a mentorship program for beginning educators of color. The program, which pairs experienced and novice educators of color, aims to create safe spaces, affirm identities and strengths, create leadership opportunities for experienced educators of color, and support new educators with instruction and curriculum. In addition to mentoring sessions, the program consists of a one-day intensive training, several asynchronous training modules, and virtual communities of practice and networking events.

RIDE is seeking 25-30 experienced educators of color to serve as mentors in this pilot. Mentors will receive a $2000 stipend and professional learning units (PLUs) for participation.

RIDE is seeking 40-50 educators of color with less than 3 years of teaching experience to serve as mentees in this pilot. Mentees will receive a $250 stipend and professional learning units (PLUs) for participation.
