RI Model Evaluation Training Resources

This year-long series of training and supports have been developed to support all personnel who evaluate Teachers and Support Professionals through the Rhode Island Models of Evaluation.

2019-20 New Evaluator Training

All new evaluators using the Rhode Island Model in the 2019-2020 school year will need to successfully complete a year-long sequence of trainings. As part of this training, participants will attend the two-day in-person academy, receive coaching as needed throughout the year from the RIDE team, participate in a webinar in late January 2020, and then attend a one-day, in-person training in the spring of 2020.

The academy will prepare personnel evaluating teachers to accurately observe practice, lead professional feedback conversations, approve Student Learning Objectives (SLOs), learn about two new student learning options, and plan for caseload management. Attendance is required on both days, and approximately one hour of pre-work is required prior to attending the academy. Lunch will be provided both days.

As we announced in the April 5 Field Memo, we will only be holding one training this year. Our hope is that this fall timeframe will still be early enough in the school year to be timely, but also allow for late hires to not miss the opportunity to be trained by RIDE. That said, we know this timeframe will not work for all new evaluators; we will offer materials and resources to LEAs so that they are prepared to train and support new evaluators who cannot make the RIDE training. We also plan to post a ‘training-in-a-box’ for new evaluators who will be evaluating support professionals. These materials and resources will be available on our website in the coming months.

*NEW* Support Professional Training Module

This module and supporting resources are designed to be a locally-facilitated, group training for those administrators who evaluate Support Professionals through the Rhode Island Evaluation & Support System.

The two-day training on the teacher model for new evaluators is a pre-requisite for this training, as it builds upon the training procedures and content, where applicable. We encourage LEAs to determine who is best suited to act as the training facilitator for this module. This facilitator should review all of the following resources and materials which are intentionally designed to support local facilitation at a time and location convenient to those who require the content of the Support Professional model as part of their role as instructional leader.
