LEA Fall Training Resources for New Evaluators of Teachers

This module and supporting resources are designed to be a locally-facilitated, group training for those administrators who will evaluate teachers through the Rhode Island Evaluation & Support System.

The two-day training on the teacher model sets the foundation for new evaluators in RI Model LEAs. We encourage LEAs to determine who is best suited to act as the training facilitator for these modules. This facilitator should review all of the following resources and materials which are intentionally designed to support local facilitation at a time and location convenient to those who require the content of the teacher  model as part of their role as instructional leader.

Pre-Work:

DAY 1

DAY 2

For any facilitators who have questions regarding the preparation and use of these materials, please email edeval@ride.ri.gov.

LEA Fall Training Resources for New Evaluators of Support Professionals

This module and supporting resources are designed to be a locally-facilitated, group training for those administrators who evaluate Support Professionals through the Rhode Island Evaluation & Support System.

The two-day training on the teacher model for new evaluators is a pre-requisite for this training, as it builds upon the training procedures and content, where applicable. We encourage LEAs to determine who is best suited to act as the training facilitator for this module. This facilitator should review all of the following resources and materials which are intentionally designed to support local facilitation at a time and location convenient to those who require the content of the Support Professional model as part of their role as instructional leader.

For any facilitators who have questions regarding the preparation and use of these materials, please email edeval@ride.ri.gov.

*NEW* Adapting for Virtual Observations & Walkthroughs

The following guidance and complementary resources are provided here to support LEAs in conducting virtual observations. District Evaluation Committees (DECs) may consider these resources when implementing virtual observation practices within local evaluation policies and agreements. Note that these resources may be use in addition to the RI Model Professional Practice Rubrics; they do not supplant the existing rubrics.

RI Model Evaluation Training Resources

This year-long series of training and supports have been developed to support all personnel who evaluate Teachers and Support Professionals through the Rhode Island Models of Evaluation.

*Updated* 2021-22 New Evaluator Training

RIDE is once again offering a flexible virtual training academy for new evaluators using the Rhode Island Model of Evaluation. This training design will allow us to prioritize content for ‘real time’ synchronous instruction and facilitation and support new evaluators through additional self-driven learning experiences on their own time.

RIDE will be offering the synchronous training session on the following dates:

Synchronous Training Focus: Observation and Calibration
Training Option #1- September 23rd, 9am- 11am
Training Option #2- October 6th, 1pm -3pm
Training Option #3- October 19th, 3pm-5pm

Please register for this training using the Educator Evaluator Training SY21-22 Registration Form

RIDE LEA superintendents who prefer to conduct the traditional 2 day in person training for new evaluators can access both the teacher and support professional materials below.  If you plan on conducting in-person eval training in your district, please feel free to reach out to the Ed Eval Team at edeval@ride.ri.gov.

Module 1: Professional Practice (Asynchronous)

Module 2: Observing Practice & Feedback (Synchronous)

Module 3: Professional Responsibilities (Asynchronous)

Best Practices Resource Suite

These facilitation resources are intended for DECs, and other individuals in LEA leadership roles in the evaluation system, to use on an annual basis to review and align best practices in a local context. As always, we welcome your questions at EdEval@ride.ri.gov regarding the ways in which these materials can be used in your district.

SLO Self-Audit

SLO Self-Audit for LEAs

LEAs can facilitate an annual professional learning opportunity around an SLO self-audit. The purpose is to better understand the level of SLO quality, to discover trends that could impact policy and practice, or future professional learning needs for educators and building administrators. The follow instructions and SLO audit tool are resources for structuring this opportunity.

SLO Approval

SLO Approval Calibration

LEAs can organize an annual professional learning opportunity to assess the quality and increase the consistency of SLO approval. This session can be designed for both educators and administrators to clarify local policies and help to work toward more consistent SLO approval processes.

SLO Scoring

SLO Scoring Calibration

The following resources provide six scenarios through which LEAs can calibrate the scoring of SLOs. The purpose of this session is to increase the consistency, efficiency, and accuracy of scoring SLOs and SOOs. This may also help to clarify local policies around the reporting and scoring of SLOs and SOOs. As always, LEAs can feel free to use local examples for this learning opportunity.

Teaching Practice

Teaching Practice Calibration

This professional learning opportunity involves looking at the professional practice rubrics used in your local model. There are four protocols for use in various contexts, and can be designed for educators and administrators to clarify local policies and practices, as well as to ensure the consistent scoring of teaching practice through observation.

High-Quality Feedback

High-Quality Feedback Calibration

District administrators and other evaluators can use the Feedback Quality Review Tool independently to assess the quality of feedback they provide to educators post-observations. This tool can also help groups of educators work to reflect and refine the feedback given by evaluators. Furthermore, these resources could also be used to audit local feedback samples to begin conversations around areas for future professional learning.
